Days Two Starts with a Smile
One of the things most of us do when taking a trip is plan ahead for our nightly accommodations. Donna and I did that too. We weren’t really thinking “Spiritual Experience” at the hotel. But on days two and three of this road trip we discovered that sometimes you can meet earth angels in unexpected places.
In Pittsburgh, our spiritual journey started right at breakfast where we were greeted by the loving soul of Earth Angel Stephanie, the Comfort Inn staff member in charge of the breakfast bar. She was just so bubbly and full of charm, making sure that we knew how to use their new coffee machine and showing us how we could make a small version of their big waffles. We found out that Stephanie had a daughter heading off to college and that she was helping out with those expenses by taking this as a second job. She was so proud of her daughter who had a full scholarship and was planning to pursue a degree in biochemistry just like her mom.
Stephanie’s full-time job was as a lab technician for a company that did environmental testing for various companies. It was obvious that she loved her job. But, more than that – she loved life and lived it with passion. We told her that and she agreed and said that this is what she tries to instill in her daughter.
We told Stephanie a bit about our own journey so far – about our stop at the Our Lady of Lourdes grotto to light a candle for our trip and about our meditation session in Pittsburgh. She mentioned that she was spiritual, but not religious. “Yes!” We agreed. “That’s how we feel too. That’s what our journey is all about.”
Stephanie’s career may have been as a biochemist and her part-time job may have been at Comfort Inn‚—but her full-time vocation is definitely EARTH ANGEL.
We made sure that we complimented Stephanie in the hotel’s Commentary Book. We even left a post-it note on the breakfast room coffee machine: “
Stephanie! You’re the Greatest!”
